counseling for Men

counseling for men with depression and anxiety

You may have arrived here because

You’ve been worrying about your love life? Or maybe you’re concerned about not making the right choice? Perhaps, you noticed your sadness feels a bit different than usual? If so, you’ve come to the right place. You may be asking yourself:

  • Am I happy?

  • What is my purpose?

  • Am I in the right relationship?

These thoughts and questions can indeed disrupt your life, making it difficult to focus at work, socialize with friends, or feel joyous at family gatherings. They can also affect your overall contentment with life. Sometimes, our emotions feel so overwhelming that we misuse substances like alcohol or marijuana. We may even find ourselves sexually involved with multiple partners. These are common but unhealthy coping mechanisms. While they might provide temporary relief, they don’t address the root cause of your feelings.

Therapy for men is a chance to develop a different kind of relationship with your emotions. Once you get in touch with them, it becomes much easier to figure out who you are and what you want in life. As a therapist in the Sycamore and Dekalb area, my goal is to help you get in touch with your emotions, reflect on your life, and find solutions that work.

Therapy can help

Understand your inner self

In our therapy sessions, we will explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to uncover your true identity. We will work together to understand your fears, hopes, and dreams. This process will help you gain a better understanding of yourself and your purpose in life.

Master Your Emotions

Emotion regulation is a crucial part of mental health. We will work on strategies to help you manage your emotions effectively. This will not only improve your mental health but also enhance your relationships and overall quality of life.

Boost Your Confidence

Low self-esteem can often lead to feelings of worthlessness and a lack of purpose. Our therapy sessions will focus on building your self-esteem. We will work on recognizing your strengths and celebrating your achievements.

Areas of specialty

In my therapy practice for men, I deal with a wide variety of topics, including:

Love-Life Counseling

Depression/Anxiety

Life transitions

Stress management

Career exploration

Parental emotional neglect

Self-worth and self-esteem

World Concerns

Problems related to decision-making

And more!

What I don’t treat:

Currently, I provide outpatient services to people who are experiencing mental health-related problems, ranging from mild to moderate symptom severity.
The practice is not able to support individuals who struggle with sexual trauma, psychosis, active domestic violence, and substance use disorder. These areas require specialized therapeutic approaches and resources. However, I understand the importance of finding the right help and I am more than willing to assist in locating appropriate resources or referrals for these issues.

Who are my clients?

My clients are adult men (18+), primarily in Sycamore, Dekalb, Cortland, Kingston, Genoa, Aurora, and the greater Chicagoland area.

They are often working with professional family-orientated men who are looking for support and ongoing care related to a wide variety of emotional behaviors (outlined above).

They aren't looking for a “quick fix” and instead are committed to finding long-term solutions to their problems. They know that the answer won’t come to them in a single session, which is why they value the relationship and level of intimacy and trust that is built over a prolonged time together.
